This is quite complex matter. Above "banglabox.com", "Deccan Herald", other Indian news sources, Japanese news sources, etc., what India/Japan media mentioned this news has a slightly different shade of meaning from what Bangladesh media mentioned. The former media for emphasizing the Hindi invasion and the latter media for not only language matter also the contents of Doraemon, like telling lies and speaking Hindi.
Bangladesh has banned a popular Hindi-dubbed Japanese cartoon for its "negative impact" on children but denied the step was taken because the show was telecast in Hindi."A circular has been issued asking cable operators not to air Doraemon as it contains scenes where a character frequently lies or tries to escape school work," an information ministry spokesman told PTI.Yesterday, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu had told the Parliament that "the government doesn't want children's educational atmosphere to be hampered by Doraemon."The spokesman however denied reports that the ban on Japanese cartoon Doraemon was imposed because it was dubbed in Hindi.
India has 22 official languages. But, more than 98% of Bangladeshis speak Bengali as their mother tongue as it is the official language. Not like Indian language situation. Also, English is used as a second language among the middle and upper classes. English is also widely used in higher education and the legal system.
Doraemon is translated to Hindi in India and Bangladesh broadcast import this contents.
Hindi is the native language of people living in northern India and is major of the official languages of the Republic of India.
The Indian constitution declares Hindi shall be written in the Devanagari script and will be the official language of the Federal Government of India. The Constitution of India has stipulated the usage of Hindi and English to be the two languages of communication for the Central Government. Most government documentation is prepared in three languages, English, Hindi, and the official language of the local state.
I feel major reason of bans of this Japanese cartoon is language matter. Hindi language cartoon gives bad influence to children for studying mother tongue.
If contents of Doraemon (speaking lies, etc.) is given negative affect to Bangladesh children, how about other cartoons?
Or some special reason of this Japanese cartoon? I want to ask Bangladesh people's opinion.
Bangladesh government has banned the Japanese cartoon Doraemon from its TV screens over fears that youngsters who are hooked on the Hindi-dubbed version are struggling to learn their native Bengali.
Most probably, this a good news for the Bangladeshi parents that Bangladesh government has banned the telecast of Doraemon cartoon, most popular cartoon among the children in recent times. But there is nothing to learn from this cartoon and due to the telecast of Doraemon children’s educational atmosphere get hampered, the parents said and urged the government to ban the telecast of the cartoon.
Government has banned the Hindi-dubbed version of the popular Japanese cartoon Doraemon from its TV screens over fears that children’s educational atmosphere get hampered due to the telecast of Doraemon. Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu informed the ban news in the Parliament on Thursday. The government also decided to ban the telecast of unapproved foreign satellite television channels like Disney, Disney XD and Pogo.
On Thursday, Inu told the Parliament “the government doesn’t want children’s educational atmosphere to get vitiated due to the telecast of Doraemon.”
“The government has already issued notices directing to stop the telecast of unapproved foreign satellite television channels like Disney, Disney XD and Pogo. So, the airing of the children’s favorite cartoon Doraemon has been banned,” he added.
Last week, Shahriar Alam, a member of the parliament, urged the government to ban the telecast of the cartoon Doraemon in the country. He had said that’ Doraemon’ serial only taught about telling lies and speaking Hindi. This type of cartoons might affect the mother tongue in the future. He further said television stations should air foreign cartoons after dubbing them in Bangla.
He said the cartoon serials should teach the children about the moral and religious values and motivate them for education.
Before this, parents of the children’s said that there is nothing to learn from this cartoon. They said Doraemon can teach children only two things and that is telling lies and speaking Hindi. Parents has been worried about the children and urged the government several times to ban the telecast of this cartoon.
Meanwhile, many people think that government should also ban the telecast of Hindi drama.
